Grand County Fishing Report Week of 7/22/24

Grand Lake - Boat ramp hours are 6am to 8pm. Fishing has been fair for rainbow trout and brown trout. We are finding them shallow6-10ft early in the day but as sun rises the fish move to the deeper cooler water in the 15-20ft range. Either trolling or casting bright flashy colored spinners tipped with a small piece of worm has been producing fish. Target the inlet areas where the cool fresh water is coming in or by the boat ramp where there is a steep drop off to deep water. Lake trout are being caught in 60-100ft of water, vertical jigging Leech Flutter spoons tipped with a small piece of sucker belly, or 3” pumpkin green colored tubes has been most productive. Stay on the move to find the active fish. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon

Williams Fork Reservoir- The east boat ramp hours are 6AM to 8PM daily. The water level is 100%. Inflow and outflow are both 88cfs. Water clarity is about 12 feet. The surface temp is 65 warming to 67 on clear calm days. Most of the loose chip seal gravel on county road 3 has moved to the edges of the road, but county road 341 still has a lot of loose gravel. The Lake Trout bite is pretty good for the first few hours of the morning. By late morning the bite gets slow, by noon it's time to head in for lunch. I'm still seeing an average of about 10 fish per rod, with most being the usual Will Fork "dinks". Nothing wrong with sitting on "dinks" as the big Laker's are eating them. All age groups can be found in 60 to 80 feet of water. Small tubes tipped with sucker meat fish slowly and gently on or near the bottom is working best for us. Sometimes adding scent helps when the bite slows down. Northern Pike are slow as usual, in part due to a decrease in population and many of bigger fish no longer live in their traditional habitat. They've moved to deeper water where the food is making it harder to catch them. Please practice catch and release on all Northern's caught. Brown Trout are feeding along the rocks north of the east boat ramp, and in the inlet before the sun hits the water. The lake hasn't been stocked with Rainbow's or Kokes since 2019 in an effort to control gill lice, so there isn't much action fishing for them. Randy H - Guide Fishing with Bernie

Lake Granby - Boat Ramp hours are 6am-8pm. Water level is at 97% or approximately 2ft below full, water temperatures have been mid 60’s to start the morning and warming to upper 60’s by the afternoon. Rainbow and Brown trout action has been fair to good depending on conditions. Early in the day or when there is a good “chop” on the water look to the rocky shorelines with an erratically worked jerk bait or spoon to find the rainbow and brown trout. Lake trout action has remained good. Fish have not starting bumping deeper yet to the cooler water but that should start happening soon. Look for them in 60-85ft of water along structure that has access to deeper water close by. 2-3” tubes in watermelon/green pumpkin color have been go to bait tipped with a small piece of sucker and some scent. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.

Grand County Fishing Report Week of 7/15/24

Grand Lake - The lake trout bite has been fair. Most lakers are being caught in 35 to 55 feet of water on small soft plastic jigs tipped with sucker meat. Smaller tubes and grubs in the 1 to 2 inch range have been productive. Most fish are being caught early in the morning as it has really been slowing down after 10am. The rainbow and brown bite has also slowed down a bit this week with the hot weather and bright blue bird sky days. Most fish are being caught early in the morning and late in the evening when the lake does not have direct sunlight on it. The west side of the lake has been a little more productive for browns and rainbows as pumping operations have continued this week. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Sam Hochevar.

Wiliams Fork - The east boat ramp hours are 6AM to 8PM. The water level is 100%, but the lake has gone down about 6". Inflow is 172cfs, outflow is 188cfs. Visibility is 10 to 12 feet. Early AM surface temp has warmed to 65.7 warming to 68. County Road 3 and 341 was recently chip sealed resulting in chips in your fancy fishing boat. Lake Trout fishing has improved now that the lake has finally settled down. This week the catch rate was 10 to 12 fish per rod. Lake Trout are working towards deeper water, but we're still catching all classes of fish in 50 to 60 feet. By the third week of July look for them in 60 to 80 feet. Small tubes, twister tail grubs or paddle tailed plastics tipped with sucker meat fished gently on or near the bottom is producing the most bites. When the bite slows start adding scent. The bite is best early AM tapering off around 9 to 9:30AM. It's pretty quiet by 10AM and totally dead by noon. Fishing for Northern Pike is slow. Some can be found near the mouth of the bays. Other than crawdads and a few suckers there isn't much food in their traditional shallow water habitats, so look for them near deeper water where the food is. Please practice catch and release on all Northern Pike. Brown Trout are working the rocks north of the east boat ramp, and in the inlet before the sun hits the water. The lake hasn't been stocked with Rainbow's or Kokes since 2019 in an effort to control gill lice, so there isn't much action fishing for them. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Randy H.

Lake Granby - Boat ramp hours are 6am-8pm. Water temperatures are low 60’s in the morning warming to 66 degrees by the afternoon. Water level is 98%, approximately 1.5ft low. Rainbow trout and Brown trout fishing has been fair. Mornings and evenings are the best periods of the day, silver and chartreuse spinners as well as green bead head wooley buggers have been producing fish. Lake trout fishing has remained good. We are finding fish in 50 to 90 ft of water, various plastics on a jig head tipped with sucker will produce bites, color seems to change by the day so have a good variety on hand. Look for structure in your target depth with steep drop offs close by and stay mobile to find the groups of fish that are actively biting. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.

Grand County Fishing Report Week of 7/8/24

Grand Lake - Surface temperature 58 degrees. Lake trout bite is fair, the bite has slowed down a bit this week, however lakers are still being caught in 35 to 50 feet of water. Small jigs worked along the bottom have been producing fish. Tipping jigs with sucker meat or using scent has been critical to getting fish to bite. Water has been pumping from lake Granby into Grand Lake all week which has led to a bunch of suspended fish on the west end of the lake. The rainbow and brown bite has been good this week with the best bite happening early in the morning and late in the evening. Small paddle tails and spinners have been producing well for the browns and rainbows. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Sam Hochevar.

Williams Fork - The east boat ramp hours are 6AM to 8PM daily. The water level is 100%. Inflow is 264cfs, outflow is 288cfs. Surface temp early AM is running 63 warming to 65/66 on a clear low wind days. Visibility is still about 10 feet. Lake Trout fishing is fair to good depending on the day. I'm seeing an average of 7 to 10 fish per rod. Laker's are starting to migrate to deeper cooler water, but for another week or so mixed age groups can be caught between 50 to 60 feet. Small plastics tipped with sucker meat jigged very slowly and gently (less than 6" lift) is producing bites. The bite drops off mid-morning. To keep them biting start adding your favorite scent. When you run out of biters it's time to move. Brown Trout are active early AM along the rocky shoreline north of the east boat ramp and the inlet. Fishing for Northern Pike is slow due to low population. Many of the remaining Pike are adapting to low food supply and have moved out of their traditional shallow water locations. Please practice catch and release on all Northern's. The lake hasn't been stocked with Rainbow's or Kokes since 2019 in an effort to control gill lice, so there isn't much action fishing for them. Randy H - Guide Fishing with Bernie

Lake Granby - Boat ramp hours are 6am-8pm. Water level is 99% or approximately 1 ft below full. Surface temperatures are starting out at 61 degrees in the morning and warming to 67 by end of day. Fishing for rainbow trout and brown trout has been fair. Target the inlet areas with Little Cleo or Kastmaster spinners or a small piece of worm under a float in the current seams of the moving water. On windy days the wind blown rocky shorelines can be very productive. Lake trout action has been very good. Look for fish in 50-85 ft along drop offs or points. Twisty tail grubs with a contrasting color jig head tipped, assortment of colors depending on the day with a fresh piece of sucker meat has been our go to lately. Don’t be afraid to explore, we are finding the most active fish away from the most popular spots, particularly after the busy holiday weekend and summer up to this point. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.

Grand County Fishing Report Week of 7/1/24

Grand Lake- Boat ramp hours are 6am-8pm with extended hours on 4th of July for fireworks. Surface temp 55 degrees and the inlets have slowed down. Lake Trout fishing has been good in 35 to 55 feet of water. Small jigs tipped with sucker meat worked along the bottom have been producing well this week. The best bite has been early in the morning until 9 or 10, after that the bite has been slowing down. The bite for rainbows and browns has been good early in the morning or on cloudy days. Fishing along dropoffs has been productive for rainbows and browns. Small jerkbaits and spoons have been very productive this week. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Sam Hochevar.

Williams Fork - The east boat ramp hours are 6AM to 8PM daily. The water level is 100%. Inflow is 484cfs, outflow is 403cfs. Surface temp is running around 60 degrees early am warming to 64\65 on a sunny day. With runoff tapering down visibility has improved to 10 feet. The Lake Trout bite is still slow compared to last season, but it is starting to pick up. I'm seeing daily catches from the mid-teens to mid-twenties. For another week or two look for mixed age groups of Lakers in 50 to 60 feet of water. Ball head jigs loaded with a small tube or twister type grub tipped with sucker meat fished very gently on the bottom is producing some hits. The best bite is early AM. The bite tapers off around 9AM when they've filled with crawdads, then it's time to start adding scent or extra flavor. Northern Pike is slow. I've talked with guys at the ramp and nobody seems to be catching any. If you do happen to catch one, please practice catch and release to help preserve the diminishing resource. The lake hasn't been stocked with Rainbow's or Kokes since 2019 in an effort to control gill lice, so there isn't much action fishing for them. Look for Brown Trout along the rocky shoreline north of the east boat ramp and in the inlet early AM before the sun comes over the hill. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Randy H

Lake Granby - Stillwater and Sunset boat ramp hours are 6am - 8pm. Lake is at full water capacity. Water temperatures are 61 degrees in mornings and warming to mid 60’s by afternoon. Rainbow trout and brown trout fishing remains very good. Look for them in less than 15ft of water in the inlet areas with moving water, silver spoons, Dynamic Twitch tubes and jerk baits are good lure choices. Alternatively a piece of worm drifted under a float or tungsten head olive wooley bugger are also producing well. Lake Trout bite remains excellent, we are finding 60-85ft of water are the most productive depths. A 3/8oz jig head with a tube or grub in purple, chartreuse tipped with fresh sucker has been very productive. When the fish go a little neutral its time to move and find fresh fish or change up lures. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.

Grand County Fishing Report Week of 6/24/24

Grand Lake - The lake trout bite has been good in 30 to 50 feet of water. Early morning has been the most productive time of the day as the bite has been slowing down by mid morning going into the afternoon. Small jigs such as 2 inch grubs tipped with sucker meat worked along the bottom have been producing most of the fish. Rainbow and brown fishing has been fair to good around the inlets and along the edges of shallow flats. Casting or trolling small spinners and rapalas is a great way to target the browns and rainbows. This bite has been best early in the morning and late in the afternoon as mid day can get super tough, especially on bright blue sky days. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Sam Hochevar.

Williams Fork - The east boat ramp hours are 6AM to 8PM daily. The water level is 98% or one foot low. Inflow is starting to slow down dropping to 651cfs, outflow is 595cfs. The lake is just under 1 foot low. Surface temp was 58 last time I was on the lake, warming to 60 on calm days. The water is still cloudy from runoff with visibility being about 6 feet. The Lake Trout bite is still on the slow side compared to last year, possibly because of an abundant supply of very small crawdads and a second midge hatch? Laker's are relatively easy to locate but coming up with a consistent bite is challenging. Look for them in 50 to 60 feet of water. Lake Trout roaming the bottom are feeding on small Crawdads and seem to fill up by 8:30AM, at which time you'll see the bite drop off. Small plastics tipped with sucker meat fished on the bottom at near dead stick levels is producing some hits. Fish moving in the water column are much more active and are usually willing to bite. If one swims into view, reel up to them and jig aggressively. Northern Pike are slow but I did hear a report of someone catching a small one near the inlet. I've also seen them near the east boat ramp that are coming in to feed on the fingerling browns that were stocked a couple of weeks ago. Please practice catch and release on all Northern Pike caught. Rainbows are slow, if there's any left in the lake (I never see any early morning late evening rings anymore). On paper there shouldn't be any Kokanee left since they haven't been stocked since 2019. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Randy H.

Lake Granby - Boat ramp hours are 6am-8pm. Water level is at 99.2% approximately 6 inches below full. Rainbow and Brown Trout fishing remains very good early/late in the day and when it is windy. Silver and blue spoons, white jerk baits and Dynamic Twitch tubes have been our go to baits. Look for rocky shorelines that drop off steeply or inlet areas with moving water. Lake trout action has been good early in the day up until about noon then the bite slows. This also coincides with boat traffic increasing on the lake, so pay attention to that over the upcoming busy weekends, and don’t sleep in! Look for best action in 65-80ft of water with light colored or chartreuse tubes and grubs tipped with sucker meat. We have been finding when the bite slows, slow down your presentation and go to smaller baits such as stick baits or grubs with tail ripped off and keep that sucker meat fresh. We are in an afternoon thunderstorm pattern so pay attention to the weather and pay attention to the skyline. Stay safe out there! Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.

Grand County Fishing report week of 6/17/24

Grand Lake - Boat ramps are open 6am-8pm. Fishing has been good for all species. Rainbow trout action has been good in the inlet areas with silver and blue spoons or drifting tungsten jigs with a small piece of night crawler under a float. Brown trout fishing has been best along the rocky shorelines with small crankbaits in white or silver color. Lake trout action is best in 30-50ft of water. 3/8 oz dark colored jig head with a glow tube or grub and small piece of fresh sucker meat has been working well. Keep your presentation subtle and pay close attention for those light bites! Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon

Williams Fork Reservoir - The east boat ramp hours are 6AM to 8PM daily. The water level is 98% or about 1.5 feet low. Inflow is 873cfs down from 1054cfs earlier in the week. Outflow is 801cfs. Surface temp is 58 warming to 61 on sunny calm days. Visibility is still about 6 feet. The Lake Trout bite is hit and miss. Some days are pretty good and others are incredibly tough. We're seeing plenty of fish responding to jigs on the bottom and in the water column, but not many takers. Look for mixed ages groups in 48 to 60 feet of water. A very gentle to dead stick presentation is what's working best right now with small tubes or plastics tipped with sucker meat and loaded with scent. Northern's are slow, as they have been for years, due to low populations. Best bet for catching one is near the east boat ramp. They've been coming in to feed on the recently stocked Brown Trout fingerlings. Please practice catch and release on all Northern Pike. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Randy H.

Lake Granby - Boat Ramp hours are 6am - 8pm. Water level is at 99% less than 1ft below full. Water temperatures are mid 50’s in the morning warming to upper 50’s by the afternoon. Fishing has remained good for all species. Look for rainbow trout in the inlet areas (moving water) early and late in the day. Pink spoons or bead head wooley bugger worked along the current edges has been working well. Brown trout bite has been best along the rocky shorelines with Dynamic Twitch tubes and white jerk baits, this bite really picks up when the wind does, so look for those windy afternoons for the best bite. Lake trout action has been best in 50-75ft of water on the main lake structures. A 3/8oz jig head paired with a light colored tube or grub such as white, gray or chartreuse has been our go to baits. Pair this with some fresh sucker and a subtle jigging motion for best results. Bite seems to die off by about 1pm so don’t sleep in and miss that morning bite! Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.

Grand County Fishing Report 6/10/24

Grand Lake- Lake trout bite has been good this week. Most fish are in 25 to 40 feet of water around the structure. Small tubes tipped with sucker meat have been producing fish although when the bite slows down downsizing to pan fish sized jigs, such as 2 inch grubs, has been the answer. Browns and rainbows are still fishing well early in the morning and late in the evening. The inlets are close to reaching their peak runoff and have been prime for rainbows and browns. Small jerk baits and small spinners have been producing a lot of fish in these areas. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Sam Hochevar

Willams Fork Reservoir - For those that haven't heard the campgrounds have become a reservation only fee area. The east boat ramp hours are 6AM to 8PM daily. The water level is 97%, just under 2 feet low. Inflow is 859cfs (the highest I've ever seen), outflow is 804cfs. Surface temp is 56.1 warming to 59 on sunny days. Visibility has improved to about 6 feet. The Lake Trout bite has slowed down a bit from last week. I'm only seeing single digit catches on an average day, low double digit on a good day. The fish are eager to look and swim circles around your bait, but only a few bite no matter the presentation. Statistically compared to the last two years the bite is down over 50% right now. Look for Lakers in 40 to 60 feet of water along the ledges and humps. The best bite is early AM on small tubes, small grubs, or twister tails with the tails removed, tipped with sucker meat jigged very gently on or near the bottom. Northern Pike is slow due to low population level. CPW stocked a bunch of small Brown Trout last week which has brought some Northern's into the east boat ramp area. Please practice catch and release on all Northern's caught. Brown Trout, especially the recently stocks Browns are biting early AM along the rocky shore line near the east boat ramp. Rainbow Trout haven't been stocked since 2019 so fishing for them is slow. There shouldn't be any Kokanee Salmon left in the lake. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Randy H.

Lake Granby - Boat ramp hours are 6am-8pm. Water level is at 96.5%, approximately 2.5ft low. Keep your eye out for floating debris on the water! Water temperature remains in the low 50’s in the mornings and warming by the afternoon. Brown trout bite has been excellent. Pitching Dynamic Twitch tubes and 3” jerk baits along wind blown and rocky shorelines has been producing lots of action. Rainbow trout bite has been good, look for them in the shallow inlet areas with moving water, sliver and pink spoons or a tungsten head Woolley Bugger in green or black have been go to baits. Lake trout action is fair to good, fish are scattered right now, staying mobile and using electronics to locate them has been key. Target 30-70ft of water, 3/8 oz jig head with a light colored 2” twitch tail minnow, P&D Lure Co. craw colored tube or grub has been producing fish when tipped with a small piece of fresh sucker. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon

Grand County Fishing Report 6/3/2024

Grand Lake - Fishing in Grand Lake is continually getting better as the warmer temps increase and the cold water inlets continue to pump in water. Right now, oxygen is at its best and the fish are eager to smack just about anything that shows a resemblance to something natural and being flushed in. If you are fishing rainbows and browns, look for current. These areas hold the most oxygen and the most fish.  Anything small and flashy will do the trick right now.  Jerks, spoons and even flys are really putting a hurt on these fish.  Again, fish as early as possible until the fish get an "education" and move to deeper water.  The lake trout fishing continues to improve.  Just a few more degrees in water temp and we will be in the best fishing of the year on Grand Lake. Small tubes and sucker seem to be producing well but trolling is also just as effective if you can maintain a constant depth where the fish are at.  I would focus all effort on the 50 foot deep range right now and look for points.  These transition areas are holding the majority of the fish right now and that should remain into summer. Dont forget to add scent to your jigs. You will be pleasantly surprised on the increased catch ratio. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Jake Foos

Grand Lake- Lake trout bite has been fair. Most of the lakers are being caught in 25 to 40 feet of water. Small plastics in the 2 to 4 inch range such as curly tail grubs and tube jigs have been producing most of the fish. The lake trout are spread out across the lake right now so moving around the structure in various depths as well as tipping jigs with sucker meat will help produce more fish. The rainbow and brown bite has been good early in the morning and late in the afternoon. Shallow flats and rocky areas in 5 to 15 feet of water have been productive, especially around the east and north inlets. Small spinners and small jerkbaits have been producing well early in the morning and in the late afternoon. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Sam Hochevar.

Williams Fork - The east boat ramp hours are 6AM to 8PM daily. The water level is 96% or about 2.5 feet low. Inflow is 531cfs, out flow is 476cfs. There is some floating and partially submerged debris on the lake, so keep an eye out for it. Surface temp is 49 degrees warming to the low 50's late afternoon. With the lake nearing full and starting to settle down visibility has improved... and so has the Lake Trout bite! The bite is good till about 8:30AM then the bite drops off to a slow crawl by 10:30. By noon you might as well head in for lunch. Look for mixed age groups in 40 to 60 feet of water. Small tubes or grubs tipped with sucker meat fished gently on the bottom is producing hits. Add scent when the bite slows down. Laker's suspended or moving in the water column seem to be a bit more eager to bite than fish on the bottom. Larger tubes worked aggressively may get hit. Rainbow Trout are slow since they haven't been stocked in several years. On paper there shouldn't be any Kokanee left in the lake. Back in the day I'd see a lot of Pike fisherman, these days I rarely see one, which tells me the Northern fishing is slow. Please practice catch and release on all Northern's to help preserve the diminishing resource. Brown Trout are active along the rocky shore line north of the east boat ramp before the sun hits the water. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Randy H.

Lake Granby - Water level is at 91%, approximately 7ft below full. Surface water temp has been right at 50 degrees and warming from there as day progresses. Rainbow trout and brown trout bite has been good along the rip rap and rocky shorelines. A variety of silver spinners, spoons or an erratic retrieve on a crank bait has been producing fish. Focus your time in the early morning or when the wind picks up in the afternoon for the best action. Lake trout bite has been good until the wind picks up and weather rolls in, target main lake structure in the 30-65ft depth range. A Dynamic Twitch Tube in white or orange have been a go to lure as well as a grub on a contrasting color jig head. Tip each bait with a small piece of fresh sucker for best results. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.

Grand County Fishing Report 5/28/2024

Grand Lake is really starting to heat up for the summer. The fishing is really in full swing and we couldn’t have better conditions for this time of year. Traffic is starting to get pretty high with the summer crowds so please play safe and watch out for one and other. The rainbows and brows have been very eager to strike just about anything that has some flash and is moving pretty fast in the water column. This time of year I love the early morning jerkbait bite but don’t pass on chucking a tazmanian devil or a leech flutter spoon. Right now, the best areas are where there is moving water as the fish seem to really stack up near the inlets. Fish as early as you can and move around to find the freshest fish available. The lake trout is really starting to heat up as well. We are finding the vast majority of our fish in 40-60 feet of water right now and a little bit of chop on the water seems to really fire them up lately. Soft plastics are king right now so with that said, tubes, twisters as well as grubs seem to be taking most of our fish. Like always, put some meat or skin on the hook and load that thing up with scent. We have had a few large fish come out of Grand Lake and it is proving to show that the population of all ages is still very strong. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Jake Foos.

Williams Fork - The east boat ramp hours are 6AM to 8PM daily. For those that haven't been there yet the inspection shack has moved to the east end of the parking area. The water level is 95% with 501cfs coming in and 416cfs going out. Surface temp has been running in the mid to upper 40's. There's getting to be a lot of debris on the lake, so keep any eye out for that. Visibility is poor, I lose sight of my jigs about 5 feet down. Compared to last season so far this spring the Lake Trout bite has been slow. I'm thinking poor visibility and unstable weather patterns have temporarily slowed the bite. The fish are still catchable, it just takes a lot more patience. Switching up jigs, colors, or adding scent doesn't seem to help much, so keep working what's worked for you in the past. Look for all age groups in 40 to 60 feet of water. Since the last stocking of Kokanee Salmon and Rainbow Trout was five years ago there shouldn't be and Kokes left in the lake, and it's making it tough to catch Rainbow's. Look for Brown Trout along the rocky cliffs near the east boat ramp. Some Browns can usually be had near the inlet, but the water is mud soup down there right now. Northern Pike is slow mostly due to low population density, but I've heard of a few being caught in the shallow bays. Please practice catch and release on all Northern Pike. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Randy H.

Lake Granby - Water level is at 89.5%, approximately 8ft below full. Water Temperature is averaging 50 degrees. Fishing for Rainbow trout and Brown trout has remained good, Rainbow trout colored jerk baits and 2” tubes cast along the shorelines have been working well. Most Brown Trout are being caught along the shorelines in Arapahoe Bay. Lake Trout fishing has been good. Look for fish in 20-65ft of water around the islands and main lake points. Light colored tubes and twisty tail grub tipped with fresh sucker worked right on bottom has been producing fish consistently. If you aren’t marking fish keep moving, once you find them, they have been eager to bite. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.
