Weekly Fishing Reports — Fishing With Bernie

Grand County Fishing Report 10/30/23

This will be the last report of the year until we start ice fishing! Get out and enjoy the great fall action.

Grand Lake - Ramp hours 6am-6pmFishing has been very good for rainbow trout both from the boat and from the shore. Pink or green Vibramax Spinners and erratically worked crankbaits have been producing well fished around the shoreline in 10ft and shallower water. Lake trout bite has been very good, look for them in 25-50ft of water, glow grubs and chartreuse spoons tipped with sucker jigged right on bottom are producing great numbers of fish. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon

Williams Fork - Ramp will be closed to trailer launched craft on 10/31. The water level is 84%, or 10 feet low. Due to the heavy algae bloom this fall visibility is about 10 feet. Surface temp is 52 degrees. The Lake Trout bite on keeper fish has been excellent. It's pretty easy to catch limits of keepers right now even though the fish are not grouped up like I've seen in past seasons. Look for them in 65 to 70 feet of water near drops, or on the flat of a drop. Small tubes, grubs or twister tail type plastics tipped with sucker meat is working well fished gently on or just above the bottom. Rainbow Trout and Kokanee Salmon are slow due to low/no population. Northern Pike is also slow. Please practice catch and release on all Northern Pike to help preserve the declining population. Until next open water season, Fishing with Bernie Guide, Randy H

Lake Granby - Stillwater Boat Ramp is open 6am-spm 7days a week. Water temperatures are peaking in the low 50’s during the day. Water level is 90% or approximately 8ft low. Fishing for Rainbow trout has been good. Chartreuse or Pink Vibramax spinners and Kastmasters along the rocky shorelines has been working very well. Lake trout action has been excellent. Look for them in 20-50ft of water. A variety of 2-3” soft plastics or 3/8oz and 1/2oz spoons jigged right along bottom has been working, with the color varying daily. Best suggestion for the lake trout is to have a good selection of colors and baits on hand and if you are on fish and not getting bit, change up till you find what they are liking that day, and keep your sucker meat small and very fresh! Grand County Fishing Report 10/16/2023

Grand Lake - Boat ramp hours 6am-6pm. Water temperature is in the low 50’s. Fishing has been good to very good. Rainbow trout have been very active and aggressive in water less than 10ft, key areas have been rocky shorelines and moving water of the inlets. Lake trout are in their spawn locations, target these fish in 30-50ft of water, flutter spoons and slab spoons tipped with sucker have been working well, Have a good selection on hand and change colors often till you find the one they will bite consistently. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.

Williams Fork - The east boat ramp hours are 7AM to 7PM. The water level is 85%, just under 10 feet low. The ramp should be usable this season to the October 31 close date. Due to algae bloom visibility has dropped to about 10 feet. The surface temp has dropped four degrees from last week running 54 early AM. Lake Trout have been biting good. Some days they are on early AM as soon as you get on spot, other days it takes them a while to get going, but they are very catchable. Look for mixed age groups in 70 to 80 feet of water. The Lake Trout are not grouped up yet and they're hugging the bottom which makes them difficult to locate on sonar. If you find one stop and drop, there's more there. This last week we saw fish ranging in size from 8" to 35" biting small tubes, twister or paddle tail grubs tipped with fresh sucker meat fished gently on, or just above the bottom. Adding scent helps if the bite slow, and they'll hold the bait a bit longer helping with hook-set. Browns have been biting early am along the rocks north of the east boat ramp. Northern Pike, Rainbow Trout and Kokanee Salmon are slow due to low population. Please practice catch and release on all Northern Pike to help preserve the declining population. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Randy H

Lake Granby - Boat ramp hours are 6am to 6pm, Stillwater boat ramp is the only ramp currently open. Water level is at 90% or approximately 8ft below full and water temperatures have been in the low 50’s. Fishing has been excellent for rainbows and lake trout. Rainbow trout are very active in 20ft and less of water, in the areas of the spawning fall fish (Browns, lake trout and kokanee) and along the rocky shorelines. Bright flashy lures such as Vibramax spinners, and flutter spoons have been producing fish. Lake trout action has been excellent with the fish moved up to their spawn locations. Look for them in 20-50ft of water, spoons, tubes and grubs have all been producing fish. Color of the lure seems to be the biggest factor once you locate the fish and can be different each day even changing at each spot so have a good selection of lures on hand as well as some fresh sucker meat to keep your lures freshly tipped. This is a great time of year to catch a lot of fish, don’t miss out! Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.

Grand County Fishing Report 10/2/23

Grand Lake - Boat Ramp hours are 6am to 6pm. Fishing has been good as the water continues to cool. Rainbow trout action is good along the shorelines and the mouth of the inlets. Silver and pink colored spinners and spoons have been most consistent lures with egg and leech patterns being the most consistent flies. Lake trout have moved up on to their spawning areas and are aggressive chasing spoons and tubes, color does not seem to matter as much as an aggressive jigging cadence. Tip your lures with fresh sucker for best results. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.

Williams Fork - The east boat ramp hours are 7AM to 7PM. The water level is at 88% or 7.5 feet low. The surface temp is cooling down quickly. The average early morning temp is 58 warming to 60 on calm sunny days. The Lake Trout bite is very good. Early AM the bite starts off a bit slow, but really gets going around 9AM and lasts all day. It's pretty easy to catch a limit of keepers as the fish start to roll into pre-spawn. We're starting to see a few big fish in the boat again. Look for mixed ages groups in 75 to 90 feet of water. Most any plastic we drop will get bit providing the presentation is right. Small tubes or twister tails in natural colors tipped with a piece of fresh sucker meat is working best for us. Adding scent helps if you catch a slow day. Northern Pike, Rainbow Trout and Kokanee Salmon are slow due to low population. Please practice catch and release on all Northern Pike to help preserve this diminishing resource. Brown Trout have been hitting small spinners, spoons, diving or suspending jerk baits in the inlet and along rocky shorelines early AM. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Randy H

Lake Granby - Boat Ramp Hours are 6am - 6pm. Water level is at 90% or approximately 8 ft below full. Fishing for rainbows has been good. Look for them in 15’ of water and under along the rocky shorelines. A variety of baits such as silver/pink/blue spinners, small jerkbaits, and slip bobber with tungsten jig and silkie have all been producing fish. Brown trout action has slowed as the fish are looking to spawn and have moved out of the lake for the most part. Lake trout action is excellent with the fish moving closer towards spawning areas as the water cools. Look for them in 35-55ft of water. Spoons, blade baits, tubes and jigging raps are all producing fish. Keep your baits tipped with fresh sucker meat and pay attention to the details of the jigging cadence that is getting bites, each day its a little different but once you dial in the cadence the fish will bite!
