Weekly Fishing Reports — Fishing With Bernie

Grand County Fishing Report week of 1/25/2021

Grand Lake - The bite on Grand Lake is starting to get a little bit tougher with the added pressure this year. Time of day and a perfect presentation is very critical for success. It’s been a soft plastic game as of lake for all species in the lake. Downsizing presentations and paying special attention to the water column is a must. Rainbows and Browns continue to strike small jigs tipped with a small bit of bait or a natural like soft plastic. Again, the earlier the better and being away from the he traffic has helped a lot. Focus efforts in 2-10 feet early and 15-30 as the day progresses. Lake trout are being caught on a variety of baits but again, it’s a natural colored soft plastic game right now. Small tubes and flukes seem to be getting the most attention. As winter progresses, don’t be afraid of fishing over deep water and watch for the suspended bites. Moving and staying mobile will help you find the areas they are at quicker. As always, please stop in and grab a cup of coffee or a bite to eat at some of the small business in the area. A small purchase goes a long way for some of the local families still dealing with the aftermath of the fire. —- Fishing with Bernie Guide, Jake Foos

Williams Fork - Ice thickness is right around 14" with only an inch or two of crusty snow on top. Lake trout bite has been steady until around 10-11am and then slows drastically. 1/8th ounce leech flutter spoons have been the ticket! Sucker meat and eggs have been producing well. Bring a light action rod that can work smaller baits and still feel bites. Fishing has still been best around 50-60' with soft bottom. Don’t be surprised if a big fish swims through your area after you start catching a bunch of smaller lake trout.  — Fishing with Bernie Guide, Rhett Feltman

Lake Granby — Fishing has remained good. There is areas of thin ice around Deer island, a large pressure ridge off of Sunset point all the way to Elephant Island and many ice heaves throughout the lake. Use extreme caution while travelling the lake. Fishing has remained good this week. We are finding lake trout from 35’ to 70’. Small plastics and spoons tipped with sucker have been the lure of choice, colors have been white and chartreuse. Finding an area that is not pressured seems to be the key, as well as using Vexilar to find the fish that want to bite. Rainbows and browns are active early and late, Clam jointed Pinhead has been my go to all year, but don’t forget the small 1.5” tubes. This weekend is the 3 Lakes Fishing Contest, Hope to see everyone at the weigh station, Good luck!! Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.

Grand County Fishing Report - Week of 1/18/2021

Grand County Fishing Report - Week of 1/18/2021

Grand Lake - Fishing for rainbows and browns has been decent with most fish being caught on small jigs with Maki plastics tipped with wax worms. Rainbows and browns are cruising in 6 to 10 feet of water. The lake trout bite has been slow to moderate with most fish coming out of 30 to 50 feet of water on small tubes and grubs tipped with sucker meat.  — Fishing with Bernie Guide, Sam Hochevar

Williams Fork - There is minimal snow on the lake due to high winds recently, so some spots are slick. The most dependable bite has been in water deeper than 50 feet and early in morning. Fish later in the day have been biting, but downsizing drastically and slowing down your presentation has been the ticket.  Fishing with Bernie Guide, Rhett Feltman

Lake Granby - Very busy weekend on the ice, while the overall ice thickness has increased there has been a few large pressure ridges that have formed and are constantly moving creating very dangerous ice conditions around them. There was also reports of a snowmobile that went in this weekend. Use extreme caution while travelling about the ice. Fishing this week slowed from the earlier season. Lake trout were found in 50-70’ of water, small tubes, Clam Jointed Pinhead Mino or Tikka Mino tipped with sucker has been producing, moving often to find the active fish. Rainbows and browns are biting early and late in the day, look in water between 6-12’ around the main lake points, islands and inlets. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.

Grand County Fishing Report - Week of 1/11/2021

Here is your Grand County Fishing Report for week of 1/11/2021

Grand Lake - The bite for rainbows and browns has been decent. Most fish are being caught in 6 to 8 feet of water on small jigs tipped with wax worms. The lake trout bite has been slow this week. Most lakers are being caught in 30 to 50 feet of water on small plastics and spoons tipped with sucker meat. — Fishing with Bernie Guide, Sam Hochevar

Williams Fork - Fishing has been most productive in the first 2 hours of daylight and then slowing down dramaticly afterwards. Eating sized lake trout have become more aggressive and have been chasing Clam Flutter spoons off of the bottom, and picking them up when they are falling, so be ready for a sudden bite or pause in your line. — Fishing with Bernie Guide, Rhett Feltman

Lake Granby - Busy weekend on the ice. Starting to see snowmobiles traveling the lake. There are lots of large slush pockets, use caution when moving around the lake. Fishing for Rainbows has been good in the early mornings along the dams, small pink or white jigs and spoons tipped with an egg or wax worm in 6-10’ of water produces well. Lake trout fishing has been excellent. Finding fish scattered throughout the lake between 30-65 ft of water. The key has been using Vexilar to find fish, if you can find the fish they have been eager to bite almost any presentation. Tubes, spoons and various plastics tipped with sucker have all been producing. — Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.

Grand County Fishing Report week of 1/3/2021

Grand lake 1/3/2021 - Ice continues to grow and the fishing remains pretty good. Luckily, the recent snow amounts have not been very significant which enables the ice to grow at a rapid rate as well as keeping the slush at a minimum.
Rainbows and browns are being caught in the early mornings on a variety of baits but the most productive has been a jig and a plastic combination.  Black drop-kick jigs by CLAM tipped with a motor oil colored Scudi has been the winning combination lately. Fish have been in shallow (3-10’) but getting on these fish as early as possible is real the key ingredient for best success as of late.
The lake trout have proven to be a little more difficult to catch as of late. Again, timing is everything and it seems to be an early morning bite as well. Try to focus your efforts in the 20-50’ range with tubes and/or twisters tipped with a small price of sucker meat. As the season progresses, keep your eye open for suspended fish on your electronics. - Fishing with Bernie Guide, Jake Foos

Williams Fork 1/3/2021 - Lots of fish being found in 40-60' of water. Spoons with small pieces of sucker meat early in the day has worked best. Getting bites has been tough later in the day so downsizing to a XL Clam tungsten with a small piece of sucker meat or a small maki trailer has made all the difference when the bite slows down. Ice is averaging 9" with only a couple inches of snow on top.  - Fishing with Bernie Guide, Rhett Feltman

Lake Granby - 1/3/2021 - The lake has capped and there is fishable ice on the lake. Finding between 3”-8” depending on age of the ice and the location with the back bays having more ice than the main lake. Lots of water on top of the ice in places and slush pockets. Rainbow trout are active in the earlier morning and late evening in water under 12’, with the areas right off the dams producing best using small tungsten jigs and spoons tipped with wax worms. Lake trout are being caught 35’-65’ on various plastics, tubes and spoons tipped with sucker, may have to move a few times to find the fish willing to bite. Stay Safe if headed out! - Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon
