Grand County fishing report for the week of 3-23-20

Here is your Grand County fishing report for the week of 3-23-20. The ice is in spring fishing conditions. Be very careful around shorelines, inlets any shallow rocky areas.

Grand Lake – Fishing remains Fair to good for all species, but does seem to change with this crazy spring weather.  The ice is holding up with the top 12” starting to get soft and the usual open water areas are starting to grow.  No problems with slush or travel lately.  Rainbows and browns are biting in 8-16 ft of water,  pink and white spoons or tungsten jigs tipped with wax worm have been producing.  Lake trout are being found suspended in 70-110 ft of water.  Tube jigs, spoons and minnow style baits tipped with sucker are producing bites.  Target those suspended fish with your electronics and move often until you find the active fish.  -  Dan Shannon -  Guide, Fishing with Bernie

Williams fork-Bite for lake trout has been decent lately with most of the fish being caught in 50 to 70 feet of water on structure. Working small plastics tipped with sucker meat on the bottom has been the ticket lately. Rainbows are being caught around the inlet or in sandy bays, the best bite has been first thing in the morning. Small spoons and tiny plastics imitating bugs have produced some fish recently. Be careful around inlets as they are all flowing creating some sketchy ice conditions around them. Sam Hochevar - Guide, Fishing with Bernie

Lake Granby- Has been extremely good for rainbows in the shallows. Small Jigs tipped with wax worms along the shoreline are getting bit.Try 6-15' early in the morning. When the sun hits the ice the bite is about over.  Lake trout have been eating twisters, tubes, spoons and plain bait on a jig head. Don't forget to look for suspended fish over very deep water. When fishing these fish keep your lure above them.

Grand County fishing report for the week of 3-16-20

Here is your Grand County fishing report for the week of 3-16-20. The ice is in spring fishing conditions. Be very careful around shorelines, inlets any shallow rocky areas.

Lake Granby has been getting a little tougher for large fish but the smaller fish are feeling the season change and eating. There is a group of lake trout suspending over very deep water, these fish have been eating twisters, tubes and spoons tipped with sucker meat. Another good bite is in 70-90' of water. Tubes and twisters are working very well here. Rainbows and a few browns are being caught around the shorelines. Small jigs tipped with wax worms should get bit till the sun comes up and shines on the ice.

Grand Lake 3/15/20.  Spring conditions are here.  Minimal snow and slush on the lake, travel is easy both on foot and with machines.  Fishing has picked up and has been fair to good for all species.  Suspended lake trout have been active and eating small plastics, paddle tails and minnow imitations.  Using electronics and working your baits at the fish has been key.  Rainbows and browns are active in the inlet areas,  small tungsten jigs, ice flies and spoons will get some bites.  Be safe, spring ice conditions can change fast. Dan Shannon - Guide, Fishing with Bernie.

Williams Fork- Most of the snow on the ice is gone or crusted over from warm days recently. The Lake trout bite has been good in 50 to 70 feet of water with small spoons and jigs tipped with sucker meat. We have been seeing some groups of suspended fish in the 50 to 70 feet of water moving through anywhere from 10 to 30 feet off the bottom. Sam Hochevar- Guide, Fishing with Bernie.

Grand County fishing report for the week of 3-7-20

Here is your Grand County fishing report for the week of 3-2-20. The warm weather and the wind has firmed up the lakes, which has helped the slush problem. The weather has been awesome, don't forget your sunscreen.

Lake Granby- Lake trout have been active in 50-90' of water. They are suspending over very deep water(150'). The oxygen is dissipating in the basin which is pushing the lakers into shallower water. This is a tough bite to find. If you find it they will chase spoons, tubes and twisters. Rainbows and browns are eating small jigs in less then 10' of water very early in the morning.

Grand Lake 3/8/2020 -   Spring conditions on the ice are here,  its been warm and the sun has done a great job of making that snow and slush start to go away.  Still some slush, but travel conditions have improved.  Fishing for Rainbows and Browns is the most consistent bite.  Catching fish in less than 20ft of water on small spoons (My favorite has been Clam Jointed Pinhead) in pink or silver tipped with wax worm or butter worm.  Lake trout are moving to spring suspended locations,  the bite has been fair at best.  When chasing lake trout right now electronics are a must!  Lures that have been producing are spoons and small minnow imitations worked throughout the entire water column.  Move often and change lures if you are not getting bit.   It feels like spring and its been sunny and warm out, don’t forget your sunscreen!  -  Dan Shannon-- Guide – Fishing with Bernie

Slush has mostly cleared up on the lake however there are still slushy spots on the lake to look out for. Lake trout are being caught in 50 to 70 feet of water on small 1 to 3 inch plastics tipped with sucker meat. Bite has been fair to good in the morning and normally dies off sometime around 1 or 2 in the afternoon. Concentrations of fish are being found around structure such as points, drop offs and humps. Most fish are being caught on or near the bottom.

Grand County fishing report for the week of 3-2-20

Here is your Grand County fishing report for the week of 3-2-20. The warm weather and the wind has firmed up the lakes, which has helped the slush problem.

Grand Lake -  Fishing for all species has been average.  Ice conditions are spotty depending on where you are on the lake,  best conditions are in front of town while there is still very slushy areas all over when you get away from town area.  The lake trout are starting to suspend, finding them in 60-100ft of water, using electronics to target suspended fish when they move through.   Minnow style baits such as Biobait Rainbow Trout Swimbait, and spoons tipped with sucker are working well.  Rainbows and browns are still being found along the shorelines early and late in 12-20 ft of water.  Small tubes and tungsten jigs tipped with wax worms should produce fish.  - Dan Shannon Guide, Fishing with Bernie.

William's Fork - 14 to 17 inch lake trout are being caught in 50 to 70 feet of water with small 1 to 3 inch plastics tipped with sucker meat. The bite is getting tougher in the heavily fished areas.  Sam Hochevar- Guide Fishing with Bernie

Lake Granby- Rainbows continue to cruise the shorelines, inside turn and the backs of coves produced fish last week in 8-10' of water. Lake trout continue to fish well. Fish will start to suspend over deeper water ib the next week or so. Spoons, tubes or small swim baits tipped with sucker meat will catch these fish. The Fishing with Bernie team has been guiding in Grand county for over 25 years.
