7-22-19 Grand County fishing report

Here is your weekly Grand County fishing report for the week of 7-28-19. Williams Fork; Surface temp is 65 in the early AM warming to 70/71 late in the day. Water capacity is 99%. Water clarity is about 10' in the main body. With the high surface temps Northern Pike are feeding frequently... this is one of the best times of year to hook up with big fish. Northern fishing is slow, but the persistent angler should be able to come up with some follows and possibly get hit or two. Work deeper water early AM, shallower water late PM. The 15" to 21" lake trout bite is good for a few hours in the morning then drops to random hits late AM. We are catching in 70' to 100 ' of water with small tubes or grubs tipped with sucker meat. Rainbows are being caught lake wide bottom fishing with Power Bait, worms or Salmon eggs. Casting small spinners or spoons early and late in the day at rises, or working the inlet where the river meets the lake can be very productive. Randy H Guide - Fishing with Bernie

Lake Granby; Water temps are in the low 70's and the lake is full. The flow in the inlets has slowed down and so has the trout bite. There are still rainbows being caught around the shorelines on bait. Earlier or later is better. Rainbows are still cruising the shallow areas looking for bug hatches, if you see this happening cast a small spoon to the rise. Lake trout are being caught in 70'-100' of water close to an edge. Patience is the key, groups of fish will come by. Some will bite somme won't.

Grand Lake; A few lake trout are still being caught in 50'-100' of water. Small jigs tipped with sucker meat seems to be the most consistent bite. The rainbow fishing has gotten tougher but a few are still being caught trolling the shorelines.

Grand Lake: 52 degrees, fishing is great for rainbows around the shorelines. Flies and a bubble, small spoons or jerk baits are working well. Lake trout are being caught on small jigs tipped with bait. Sucker meat seems to be the bait of choice.

Lake Granby: 56 degrees, Brown trout fishing has slowed considerably but a few are still being caught early and late in the day. The night bite should be picking up. Rainbows are still being caught around the shorelines, powerboat and worms are getting bit. Look for hatches in the evenings and cast flies or small spoons to the rises. Lake trout are still very catchable. Jiggers are getting them on spoons or tube jigs tipped with sucker meat. Trollers are doing well with squids, spoons and crank baits.

Williams Fork: Surface temp is 61 rising to mid 60's by days end. Water capacity is 99%. Water clarity in the main body is 10'+. The Lake Trout bite is still good for all age groups during the early AM. The bite slows mid day but picks up again late afternoon. We are seeing fish through out the entire water column from 50 to 100'. Lake Trout are scattered, but stopping on marked fish and dropping grubs or tubes tipped with sucker meat will porduce some hits. Rainbow fishing is good casting hardware at rises early and late in the day, as is bottom fishing with worms, salmon eggs or Power Bait. Northern Pike has picked up a bit but one has to work hard to hook up. Best opportunity is early AM and late PM casting the shore lines. Trolling for Kokanee is very slow due to low population.
