Grand County Fishing Report 9/18/23

Grand Lake - Boat Ramp Hours are 6am-6pm. Rainbow Trout action has been improving with the cooler water temperatures. Trolling or casting Silver w/pink or orange spoons and spinners has been producing fish. Brown trout action has been fair with most fish being caught in the inlet areas or in the streams on small crank baits. Lake trout action is fair witih fish staging for the approaching spawn. Look for them in 40-65 ft of water, jigging a variety of spoons and small plastics tipped with sucker has been producing fish with glow colors working better than natural colors. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.

Williams Fork Reservoir - The east boat ramp hours are 7AM to 7PM. Water capacity is 93%, or 4.6 feet low. My last trip out the surface temp was 62.7 and warmed to 66 mid-day. Visibility is about 12 feet. The Lake Trout bite has been good on keeper size fish, but the big fish are pretty tough to locate. Best depth to fish right now for all age groups is between 80 to 90 feet. Tubes, twisters or paddle tale grubs tipped with sucker meat fished within a few inches of the bottom is getting fish. If the morning bite slows start adding scent and try downsizing your jig. By noon fishing gets slow. Kokanee Salmon and Rainbow Trout are nearly impossible to catch due to little or no population. Brown Trout are getting ready to spawn and have been active in the inlet and rocky areas early AM. Small spinners, suspending or diving jerk baits are a good choice. Northern Pike are slow, so slow that I rarely see anyone fishing for them. Best chance of hooking up with a Pike is early AM, late PM or during an approaching front. Please practice catch and release on all Northern Pike to help preserve this declining resource. Randy H - Guide Fishing with Bernie

Lake Granby - Boat Ramp hours are 6am-6pm. Water level is 92% and dropping, approximately 6ft from full pool. Water temperatures cooling, low 60’s during the mornings warming to mid 60’s by the afternoon. Rainbow trout action has been good. Silver/pink spoons and spinners cast or trolled along the dam faces and around the islands has had good success. Brown trout action has been fair, look for the best brown trout action in the moving water in the creek and inlet areas, an erratically worked spoon or jerk bait will produce bites. Lake trout action has been fair, fish are in their pre-spawn areas in 45-70ft of water. Jigging Spoons or small dark green and black grubs with a bright pink or chartreuse head have been producing best on most days. Switching up to a glow color if the bite slows has been enticing some additional bites. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.

Grand County Fishing Report Week of 9/11/23

Grand Lake - Boat ramp hours are 6am-6pm. Fishing for all species is improving as the water temperatures are dropping. Rainbow trout and Brown trout action has been good along the shallow shorelines and main lake breaks into deep water. Small jerkbaits and spoons worked erratically will produce bites. Lake trout are moving up towards their spawning structure. Look for them in 30-50ft of water. Spoons, jigging raps, and blade baits tipped with a small piece of sucker have been our go to baits. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.

Williams Fork - The east boat ramp has new hours for the remainder of the season, 7AM to 7PM. Water capacity is 95%, just over 3 feet low. The surface temp is cooling down, it's been running 63/64 early AM warming to 66 on calm sunny days. A couple more weeks of cool nights and we'll be into a great fall bite! The Lake Trout bite has been picking up. The last few trips out clients could easily put 20 to 30 "catch your limit" size fish in the boat, but trophy class fish are pretty tough to find right now. Mixed age groups can be found in 80 to 90 feet of water. Currently we're using natural-colored tubes or twister/paddle tail grubs tipped with sucker meat and scent fished gently within a few inches of the bottom. The fish are belly down on the bottom which makes it tough to locate a group of fish, but if you find one that's up... there's more nearby. By noon the bite gets pretty slow until late afternoon. Kokanee Salmon and Rainbow Trout are slow due to a low population of both species, they haven't been stocked since 2019. Northern Pike are also slow due to a declining population. The last couple of weeks I haven't seen anyone fishing for them. Best chance of hooking up on a Pike is during an approaching storm or low light conditions with choppy water. Please practice catch and release on all Northern Pike to help preserve this diminishing resource. Brown Trout have been active early AM in the inlet near where the river meets the lake, and along the rocky cliffs north of the east boat ramp. Small spinners, count down or suspending jerk baits have been producing a few fish. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Randy H

Lake Granby - Boat ramp hours are 6am-6pm. Rainbow trout action has been improving as the water temperatures are dropping. Flashy silver colored spoons and spinners worked along the rocky shorelines and around the islands have been a good pattern. Lake trout action has slowed a bit as they start moving towards their spawning locations but should pick up with the dropping water temperature. Look for them in 50-70ft of water along the main lake channels. Spoons and plastic grubs in dark colors tipped with sucker meat have been the most consistent baits. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.

Grand County Fishing Report 9/4/2023

Grand Lake - New boat ramp hours are 6am-6pm. Fishing for all species has been fair. Rainbow and brown trout action is best at sunrise. Dry flies and hopper patterns have been producing either with fly gear or with a spinning gear and a bubble. Kastmasters and Little Cleo spoons are also producing fish, best colors have been silver with a bright contrasting color. Lake trout action has been fair. Look for them in 50-90ft of water and pay close attention to electronics we are seeing lots of suspended fish. Glow grubs and flutter spoons jigged on the bottom tipped with a small piece of sucker are working well, with the spoon producing best for those suspended fish when you real up to them. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.

Williams Fork - The NEW east boat ramp hours are 7AM to 7PM. Water capacity is 97%, just under 2 feet low. Inflow is 51cfs, outflow is 211cfs. Surface temp has been running 66 early AM warming to 68. Visibility is about 15 feet. The Lake Trout bite has picked up compared to last week's slow bite. Mixed age groups can be found in 70 to 90 feet on top of, or at the bottom of steep drops. Small tubes, twister or paddle tail grubs tipped with sucker meat fished gently on the bottom will produce bites. If the bite slows start adding gel or spray scent. If the bite doesn't pick up it's time to move. Keeper size fish are holding very tight to the bottom (they're hiding from big fish) which makes them hard to locate, but if you find one stop and drop, there's more fish in the area. Kokanee Salmon and Rainbow Trout are slow due to little/no population. Northern Pike are also slow due to a declining population. Best chance of hooking up is during an approaching storm. Please practice catch and release on all Northern Pike to help preserve the diminishing resource. Brown Trout have been active early AM in the inlet and along the rock cliffs north of the east boat ramp. Small #3 or 4 Mepps type spinners or sinking countdown jerk baits have been producing some fish. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Randy H

Lake Granby - New boat ramp hours are 6am-6pm. Water level is at 96.5% or approximately 5 ft below full. Water temps are in the upper 60’s and should be starting to cool with the days getting shorter. Fishing for rainbows and browns has been fair. Best rainbow trout action has been in Columbine or Arapahoe Bay. Trollers are reporting success with cowbells and spinner tipped with a piece of worm in 12-18’ of water. For shore anglers look for rocky shore lines that drop off quickly, smaller jerk baits such as a Dynamic HD Trout or Rapala X-rap in rainbow trout colors has been producing bites. Lake trout action has remained good, look for them in 60-100ft of water. Found better action with dark colored jigs this week with a black or pumpkin colored bitsy tube tipped with sucker as best producing baits. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.

Grand County Fishing Report 8/28/2023

Grand Lake - Boat Ramp Hours are 6am-8pm. Water temperature is in the mid 60’s. Daily traffic on the lake has started to slow. Fishing for rainbow trout and brown trout has been fair. Kastmasters, Flutter spoons and small crankbaits have been producing fish. Best action has been early and late in the day along the shallow to deep water breaks or in the inlets where water is cooler. Lake trout action has been fair to good depending on the day. Look for the lake trout in 50-100ft of water, down size your presentation and pay close attention as these fish bite light! A dark colored head 1/4-3/8oz, with a glow grub tipped with a small piece of fresh sucker has been a great producer lately. Look for some suspended fish moving through as well and have a spoon handy as the suspended fish when they are around are eager to bite that more active presentation. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.

Williams Fork - The east boat ramp hours are 6AM to 8PM. Water capacity is at 98%. With the recent rains inflow has temporally increased to 203cfs, out flow is 115cfs. Surface temp is 67 warming a degree or two by mid-day. Visibility is excellent at 12 to 15 feet. I don't really know if all the recent storm fronts effected the Lake Trout bite, or if the dog days of summer finally hit, or a combination of both... but the Lake Trout bite has slowed dramatically from my last report. Look for all age groups in 70 to 90 feet of water. This last week brightly colored jigs or tubes tipped with sucker meat and scent fished gently on the bottom produced a bite every 20 to 30 minutes. Small Brown Trout have been active in the inlet and along the rock cliffs north of the boat ramp early AM. Due to low population density Northern Pike, Rainbow Trout and Kokanee Salmon are slow. Please practice catch and release on all Northern Pike. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Randy H.

Lake Granby - Boat Ramp hours are 6am-8pm 7 days a week with both Stillwater and Sunset ramps open. Water level is dropping and is currently at 95% or approximately 4 ft low. Water temperatures are hovering in the high 60’s. Fishing for rainbow and brown trout has been fair. Best action has been in the early evenings until sunset. Best action is on a slip bobber with either a small atomic tube or piece of worm. Drift this presentation in the current around the inlet creeks or cast and retrieve very slowly along the rocky dam faces. Some success is also reported by trollers or casting shorelines with pink spinners or spoons. Lake trout action has remained very good. Starting to see some groups of fish who are lure shy, but with a move to another location and plenty of eager fish to bite. Look for lake trout in 60-90 ft of water. 3/8oz jig head with a contrasting color head and small natural colored plastic tube, grub or crawfish imitation tipped with sucker has been best producing bait. When dealing with finicky fish, don’t forget your spoons or minnow imitation baits, that change of pace can turn on negative fish. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.

Grand County Fishing Report Week of 8/14/23

Grand Lake - Boat ramp hours 6am-8pm. Fishing has been good for all species. Rainbow trout and brown trout action has been best early and late in the day. Target the inlet areas of lake where the cool water is entering the lake. Small natural colored jerkbaits and silver colored spoons worked with an erratic lift-pause retrieve have been producing fish. Look for lake trout in 50-90ft of water. A 3/8oz jig head with contrasting colored plastic body such as a fuzz-e-grub, tipped with a small piece of sucker has been working well. Stay mobile and cover water to keep on the actively biting groups of fish, this will greatly improve success throughout your day. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.

Williams Fork - The east boat ramp hours are 6AM to 8PM daily. Water capacity is at 100%. At last report both inflow and outflow are 61cfs. With last week's cool weather, the surface temp has dropped to 65, warming to 70 on sunny days. Visibility is about 12 feet. Lake Trout jigging is good if you don't fish the same ol pressured spots. Juvenile keeper size fish are eager to bite most any small plastics fished tight to the bottom tipped with sucker meat. When the bite drops off try adding your favorite scent, if that doesn't work... it's time to move. Look for all age groups in 50 to 90 feet of water. Big Lake Trout have checked the calendar and knows it's the "Dog Days of Summer". This time of year, extreme patience is required to hook up with a big Laker. Sitting on active juvenile Lakers can be a plus to hunting big Lakers as they are now the primary food source. Brown Trout have been active in the inlet and long the rocky shoreline north of the boat ramp. Small spinners or jerk baits fished early AM, and around sunset should produce some hits. Rainbow Trout and Kokanee Salmon are slow due to low population. Northern Pike is slow. Once or twice a week I hear a report of someone catching one. As with Lake Trout, Northern Pike's food source has also changed, I keep finding Northerns where they've never been before. Please practice catch and release on all Northern's caught to help sustain a declining population. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Randy H.

Lake Granby - Boat ramp hours are 6am-8pm. Stillwater and Sunset ramps are now open 7 days a week. Water temperature is in the upper 60’s in morning and reching low 70’s by the afternoon. Lake is at 97% capacity or approximately 2ft below full pool. Fishing for rainbow and brown trout has been fair, with the best action right at sunrise in the mouth of the creek inlets. A carefully drifted worm, gulp minnow or slow and steady retrieval of a vibramax spinner has been producing fish. Lake trout action has remained excellent. Look for fish in 45-90ft of water, brightly colored 3/8oz jig head with a white or glow body tipped with sucker has been producing numbers of fish. Key locations seem to be the structure along the main lake channels, stay moving to keep on the active groups of fish once biting slows. When targeting larger fish the key is to find the kokanee and the lake trout won’t be far away. 6” and larger tubes or minnow imitations in kokanee colors have been producing bites with the best action being early in the day. Please practice catch and release with quick, careful handling of these larger fish, some can be 30+ years old! Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon

Grand County Fishing Report Week of 8/7/23

Grand Lake - Boat ramps are open 6am-8pm 7 days a week. Water temp is in the upper 60’s and fishing remains good. Rainbow trout and Brown trout action is good along the docks and inlets with 1/8oz Blue Fox spinners with pink or silver blades or small crank baits. Trollers are reporting success with cow bells and pink spinners tipped with small piece of worm inBlack or glow colored grub tipped with sucker meat worked right on the bottom is producing good early in the mornings. When the lake starts to get busy with traffic, its time to fish flutter spoons and blade baits to get more of a reaction bite, tip with a small piece of sucker for the extra enticement but don’t make it too big so it effects how the jig works. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.

Williams Fork - The east boat ramp hours are 6AM to 8PM daily. Water capacity is holding at just under 100%. With all the recent rain inflow has increased to 157cfs, outflow is 92cfs. Looks like surface temps may have reached the summer high of 67 early am warming to 72 mid-day. Visibility is good, I lose sight of jigs at about 12 feet. Lake Trout fishing is still good early AM while the fish are actively feeding, but by time the chill has left the air the bite gets slow until late afternoon. Keeper size fish are eager to bite small tubes or grubs tipped with sucker meat worked gently on the bottom. Start adding scent when the bite slows. I'm seeing mixed age groups in 50 to 90 feet of water. Big Lakers are feeding on small Lakers, so sitting on juvenile fish can be a good thing. Brown Trout have been active early am biting small spinners in the inlet where the river meets the lake. Browns can also be found along the rock cliffs north of the boat ramp. Rainbow Trout, Kokanee Salmon and Northern Pike are slow due to low population. Please practice catch and release on all Northern's caught. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Randy H.

Lake Granby - Water Level is 98%. Boat ramp hours are 6am-8pm at Sunset Ramp 7 days a week and Stillwater ramp Friday-Sunday. Surface water temps are in the upper 60’s in the morning warming to about 72 by the afternoon. Fishing for rainbow trout and brown trout has been fair. Target 10-20ft depths for these fish along the rocky dam faces or in the areas of moving water. Pink and silver spoons, spinners and worms drifted under a float have been working well early and late in the day. Lake trout action has been very good to excellent depending on the day. Look for the most active fish on main lake structure in 50-90ft of water. A 3/8oz or 1/2 oz Chartreuse jig head with a glow or purple grub jigged slowly on the bottom has been producing good numbers of fish. A contrasting colored jig head seems to help as well as moving until you find an active pod of fish. The bite for the larger fish is as good as it gets right now, a larger presentation like 6” plus tube jigs, in natural colors such as green, brown, or gray has been the ticket. Slow down that presentation to maximize the number of bites you get. Please practice good techniques and quick release, limiting time out of water with all released fish in these warmer water temperatures. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.

Grand County Fishing Report 7/31/23

Grand Lake - Grand Lake continues to fish very well for all species now that the water temps have stabilized. The lake continues to be very busy and timing is everything when looking for fish. Try to get on the water as early as possible and find the “fresh fish” for the day before they start to get pressured. Rainbow and Brown fishing is still very strong in the early morning hours. The typical jerkbait bite remains strong up until the sun starts to beam down on the water and the fish move a bit deeper. After the sun comes up and really starts to warm the surface, don’t be afraid to break out the trolling gear and drag the same jerks around on a small amount of leadcore. Keep a close eye on your electronics and adjust your depths according to what distance from the top the fish are holding in. One good tip is to make sure your baits are running above the fish and not below them. This time of year we are using more “natural” colored baits as they provide a little more finesse to your presentation. Dynamic HD Trout, Tazmanian Devils and countdown rapalas have been producing the best for us as of lake. The Lake trout are grouping up pretty well on structure and are eager to smash a well presented soft plastic tipped with a very small amount of sucker meat. Currently, we are finding most of the hungry fish in about 50-90 feet of water. When fishing over the deeper water, keep your eye out for the suspended fish. If you can get your jig a foot or two above them, its almost a guarantee that you will be getting bit. When looking for a spot to start, make sure to look at the ambush areas- “A room with a view” especially with the water temps climbing. There is a short window of opportunity to hammer down while the water temps are favorable in the am but after that, the fish seem to be sliding off into a little deeper water- especially if it a clear day. Small tube jigs in white, brown and green have been producing the best for us lately.  - Fishing with Bernie Guide, Jake Foos

Williams Fork - The east boat ramp hours are 6AM to 8PM daily. Water capacity is just under 100%. Inflow is 101 cfs, outflow is 93 cfs. Surface temp went up to 67 warming to 72 mid-day. Visibility is about 12 feet. I was expecting it, the "Dog Days of Summer" have arrived. The Lake Trout bite has slowed but it's still possible to easily catch limits of keeper size fish in the early AM. Look for juvenile fish in 50 to 90 feet of water. Most any small plastics tipped with sucker meat fished gently on the bottom will get bit. Once the sun is shining strongly the bite drops off and it's time to start adding scent. Big Lake Trout have moved to deeper water. Focus on them in 70 to 90 feet. Bites are scarce, but tubes tipped with sucker meat has been somewhat effective. Northern Pike, Rainbow Trout and Kokanee Salmon are slow due to low population. Please practice catch and release on all Northern Pike. Small Brown Trout are active in the inlet area and along the rocky east shore line north of the boat ramp early AM. Mepp's, Vibrax and Rooster tail type spinners are getting bit. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Randy H.

Lake Granby - Water Level is 98.6%. Temperatures are reaching upper 60’s by the afternoon. Boat ramp hours are 6am-8pm, Sunset ramp is open 7 days a week and Stillwater is open Friday through Sunday. Fishing for Rainbow Trout and Brown trout has been fair. Best success is being had by trolling dodgers and pop-gear with a Chartreuse or orange spoon tipped with a small piece of worm in 12-20ft of water. Shore anglers are finding success along the dam’s and rocky areas of lake with crank baits, bright and flashy spinners and a wooly booger on fly and bubble early in the morning or right at dusk. Lake trout fishing remains good for both numbers and larger fish. Finding fish in 45-90ft of water along the main lake channels. Small plastics 2-3” such as grubs, tubes and minnow imitations in glow or white tipped with a small piece of sucker has been most consistent bait when jigged along the bottom. The fish are feeling the daily angling pressure and some of the groups are becoming lure shy, if you are finding fish and they are not biting, it is typically more effective to move to find the actively biting fish. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.

The Fishing with Bernie team has been guiding in Grand County for over 25 years. For more info please check out www.fishingwithbernie.com, www.facebook.com/FishingWithBernie/ or our Instagram pages https://www.instagram.com/fishing_with_bernie https://www.instagram.com/fishingwithaltitude

Grand County Fishing Report 7/24/23

Grand Lake - With the latest warming trend and the snowpack starting to recede, the inflow to the lake has come down quite a bit but the fishing remains very good. Traffic on the lake continues to be very high so please use extreme caution when navigating across the water. There are a lot of paddle boarders, kayaks, sail boats and other small vessel recreationalists out there. The rainbow and brown trout fishing continues to be stellar in the early morning hours. For best results, get on the water as early as possible and try to fish as close to moving water as possible. My favorite morning bite is with a small Jerkbait along the shores. Dynamic HD trout are almost unstoppable but Tasmanian devils are a close second. Cast into shallow water and work the bait back into the depths for best success. If there is a morning rain storm, watch for surface action and look for the “slurpers”. This bite can also be a great time of you are limited to a fly rod. The lake trout have really started to chomp pretty well as of late with the water temps up into the 60’s. Small, natural colored jigs tipped with a very small piece of sucker meat has been getting most of our strikes lately. We are focusing on structure that is around 50-60 feet right now. One thing to consider is to not spend too much time on a single spot. If you are marking fish but can’t get them to fire, move on and find the active pods. This will really help you maximize how many fish you land in a day. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Jake Foos

Williams Fork - The east boat ramp hours are 6AM to 8PM daily. Last week the lake went down a bit but is holding steady at 99.5% capacity. Inlow is 133cfs, outflow is 92cfs. Surface temp has jumped to 66 early am warming to 71 mid-day. Visibility is excellent, I lose sight of jigs at about 12 feet. Jigging for Lake Trout has been good for the first few hours early AM, but once the fish have fed up on crawdads the bites gets slow until late afternoon. Small tubes or grubs tipped with sucker meat jigged gently on the bottom should produce limits of keeper size fish. When the bite slows start adding your favorite scent. Temperature tolerant juvenile fish can still be found as shallow as 20/30 feet, but the bigger fish have moved to deeper water. Look for mixed ages groups in 60 to 90 feet. There's a good chance fish suspended in the water column will bite. I'm finding Northern Pike fishing to be slow due to reduced population. Best chances on Northern's is early AM before the sun comes up, late PM as the sun is setting or windy/stormy conditions with overcast skies. Please practice catch and release on all Northern's caught. Williams Fork hasn't been stocked with Rainbow or Kokanee Salmon since 2020, fishing for both species is very slow. Brown Trout are active in the inlet area and along the rocks of the east shore line early AM. Mepp's, Vibrax and Rooster tail type spinners are getting bit. Randy H - Guide Fishing with Bernie

Lake Granby - Wate level is 99%. Water temp is 64 in the mornings warming to 68 by end of day. Boat ramp hours are 6am to 8pm with Sunset ramp being open 7 days a week and Stillwater open Friday-Sunday. Rainbow and brown trout action is fair. Best success is trolling shorelines in 20 ft of water or less early or late in the day with dodgers and pink/silver or chatreuse spinners tipped with a small piece of worm. Shore anglers are reporting success in the inlet areas early in the day with Tasmanian Devils or Kastmasters that will cast a long distance. Lake trout action remains good. Fish are starting to work a little deeper finding groups of fish from 40-90’. Being mobile and locating the active fish is important to success as the summer moves along. Glow grubs and small white or pink hair jigs tipped with sucker has been a great bait for those eater size fish (Under 19”). Upsizing baits and using a variety of plastics such as 4-6” tubes, grubs or flukes is producing more quality fish, but not as many bites. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.

Grand County Fishing Report 7/17/23

Grand Lake - Boat ramp hours are 6am-8pm 7 days a week. Water temp has been in the low 60’s, with lots of people out enjoying the water. Fishing has been fair for rainbows and browns with best action trolling dodgers with blue/silver or pink/silver spinner tipped with a small piece of worm in 20ft or less of water. Best action from shore has been in the inlet areas with pink, silver and blue spoons, spinners and tasmanian devils. Lake trout action has been very good in 40-70ft of water, 3/8 oz white or black bucktail jig tipped with sucker has been very consistent catching good numbers of fish while our next go to bait has been a 1/4 or 3/8oz Clam Leech Flutter spoon in glow colors. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.

Williams Fork - The east boat ramp hours are 6AM to 8PM daily. The lake is starting to go down, water capacity is at 99%. Inflow is 209 cfs, outflow is 274 cfs. Surface temp is 64 early am warming to 67 mid-day. Visability is excellent which helps with the catch rate. There's a couple of big logs floating around that can't seem to make it to the shore, so keep an eye out for them. As we roll into the "Dog Days of Summer" the Lake Trout bite is still quite good early AM. As the sun gets higher in the sky the bite drops off, but they are still catchable if you are persistent. Look for Lake Trout in 50 to 80 feet of water on or near drop offs. Small tubes or twister grubs tipped with sucker meat and scent is working best for us. Northern Pike is slow, as is Rainbow and Kokanee Salmon due to low population. Please practice catch and release on Northern's. Brown Trout are hitting small spinners in the inlet area early AM. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Randy H

Lake Granby - Water level is 100%. Boat ramp hours are 6am to 8pm with Sunset ramp being open 7 days a week and Stillwater Ramp is open Friday through Sunday. Surface water temperatures are 63 in the morning warming to 67 by the afternoon. Fishing for rainbow trout has been fair, with best success early in the mornings. This should improve this as the lake was stocked last week with catchable sized rainbow trout. Trollers are reporting success trolling shorelines with pop gear and brightly colored spoons, or moderate diving crankbaits. Shore anglers are reporting success along the dams with typical baits fished on bottom or spoons and spinners in bright pink or orange colors. Brown trout action is fair, but conditions must be right. Best action is when it is overcast and windy. White crankbaits worked erratically along shoreline has been producing, as well as working white tube jigs along the rocky bottom. Lake trout action has remained good this week. Look for lake trout in 40-80ft of water, best action has been the areas with deep water close by. A 3/8oz jig tipped with a chartreuse or pink glow grub has been a great lure combo, but don’t be afraid to get wild with the colors bright and colorful seems to be getting the most bites. As always tip your lures with a small piece of fresh sucker to entice those light bites. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon

Grand County Fishing Report week of 7/9/23

Grand Lake - Boat ramp hours are 6am-8pm 7 days a week. Best fishing for all species is in the mornings and evenings when the traffic on the lake is minimal. Rainbow trout and brown trout action has started to slow as the water is warming and the fish are moving deeper. Trolling lead core, snap weights or down riggers in 20ft of water with a dodger or pop gear and pink spinner has been producing some fish. Shore anglers are reporting success with night crawlers either drifted in the inlets or fished on the bottom. Lake trout action has been fair, look for them in 40-80ft of water. Typical baits such as 3” tubes, grubs and spoons tipped with sucker are all working. Best success with colors that glow. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.

Williams Fork Reservior - The east boat ramp hours are 6AM to 8PM daily. Water capacity is 100%. Infow is 345 cfs, outflow is 369 cfs. Surface temp is 61 warming to 65 by late afternoon. The lake is settling down from runoff. Visibility is 12 feet plus. I saw a couple of big logs floating around this week, so keep an eye out for hazards. Lake Trout are starting to move to deeper cooler water. Look for them in 50 to 80 feet of water. The Lake Trout bite is good for the first few hours in the morning then drops off until early evening. Tubes, twisters or plastics imitating a fish tipped with sucker meat is working well. A finesse presentation on the bottom seems to work the best. If you see fish get off the bottom, try some aggressive jigging. I don't see many boats fishing for Pike which tells me it's slow. I spoke with a guy at the ramp that said he had a good one on but lost it at the boat, if you're willing to work hard it's possible to catch one. Please practice catch and release on all Northern Pike. Shore fishing for Rainbow Trout and trolling for Kokanee is slow because neither species has been stocked since 2020. Lake Granby - Lake is at 100% capacity. Boat ramp hours are 6am-8pm 7 days a week at Sunset Boat Ramp and Friday through Sunday at Stillwater Ramp. Water Temp is low 60’s in the morning warming to mid 60’s by afternoon. Fishing for Rainbows has been fair with best success reported by trollers working in 12-20ft of water with pink or orange spoons and various crank baits. Brown Trout action has been good in the windy afternoons along the rocks with orange spoons or crayfish colored crank baits. Lake trout action has been good in 35-65ft of water. Focus on the rock to mud bottom transition areas or main lake points with sharp breaks. Dark colored grubs or 3” tubes tipped with sucker early and late in the day have been good baits, changing to a white or lighter colored bait during the bright, mid-day hours. If you are marking fish that are not biting, its time to move. Finding un-pressured fish seems to be key to getting them to bite. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.
